Ahead of Friday’s clash against relegation threatened St Mirren, Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk feels that the Bhoys need to put up a strong performance to get all three points.

Celtic travel to St. Mirren Park to take on rock-bottom St Mirren in their next league fixture this Friday where a win would consolidate the Hoops’ position at the top of the table.

Ronny Deila’s men are five points clear of their closest rivals Aberdeen and the reigning Scottish champions appear strong favourites to win their fourth successive league title.

On being asked at a pre-match press conference if Gary Teale’s side will pose a strong challenge owing to their precarious league standing, Van Dijk answered in the affirmative, adding that Celtic need to perform at the same high level which saw them defeat Dundee United three times in a row in order to get all three points on Friday.

“Yes, every game is going to be different, but we need to be up for it and we need to perform well like we did in the last couple of weeks and then hopefully we can get a good result.”

On the question of his personal progress from his debut campaign of last term, the Dutchman said that he indeed set the bar high with his performances last season and is expected to perform at the same level.

However, the 23-year-old added that he relishes his time at Celtic Park and wants to end the current campaign with the domestic treble.

“I think I have made a lot of progress, but also I have made big expectations for other people around Celtic who judge me.

“But I enjoy every day here and there is a bit of a chance we are going to win the treble and that’s what I want.”
