Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart has stressed the need to carry on after managing his 50th cap for the Three Lions.

The 27-year-old managed the feat during his team's friendly against Italy last night, which ended in a 1-1 draw in Turin.

Having made his senior debut for the country in 2008, Hart became a regular for England two years later and has since been an ever present entity between the sticks for Roy Hodgson's team.

And now having finally secured his 50th appearance for the country, Hart wants to keep going, also revealing that he is inspired by Italian great Gianluigi Buffon, who managed his 147th cap for his country during yesterday's match.

The Manchester City custodian insists that it is a proud moment for him, a moment that equals that of his first cap.

“I’m really proud”, Hart told the FA's official website.

“I was proud of my first cap, I was proud to represent the Under-21s, and 50 caps at my age is good.

"I want to keep going, that’s not the end for me. I just want to keep going, keep playing well for my club and country and rack them up.

“I’m still learning my game and I’m still watching the likes of Buffon and the way he goes about his business at 37 years old. I’ve got a lot more learning to do and I want to do it in this team."

Hart insists that Buffon's caps total is still a long way off and yesterday was a night to celebrate the achievements of a legend of the game.

“[Buffon’s caps total] is a long way off, but it’s definitely a night to celebrate a terrific goalkeeper and a legend of the game, someone I personally look up to and it’s inspirational to see."
