Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva feels that his team have enough depth in their ranks to overcome the absence of Martin Skrtel and Steven Gerrard for their next three matches.

Both Skrtel and Gerrard are facing three-match suspensions for their infractions during the Reds’ 2-1 loss to Manchester United in their last Premier League fixture.

Gerrard was sent off shortly after his introduction after half time for a stamp on Ander Herrera, and the Liverpool captain will miss his side’s next three matches.

Skrtel was banned for three games for his stamp on Red Devils’ goalkeeper David de Gea towards the closing stages of their encounter at Anfield on 22nd March.

But Lucas, who has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Reds this term, feels that Brendan Rodgers' side have enough depth in their ranks to overcome the absence of the long-serving duo.

"Martin is having a fantastic season again”, the Brazilian told the club site.

“He has been a very consistent player for us and losing him and Stevie is hard to take, but if you want to be successful you can't rely on one or two players.

"Both are very important players for us as one can change a game and the other gives us stability at the back, but we have other players as well who can step in.

“It's always been the case for the group that if someone gets injured then someone will step in and do the job.

"That's how it should be and we shouldn't be afraid we don't have them.

“Of course it's going to be a big miss not having Stevie and Skrts [Skrtel] but we have to show we can cope for the three games and then we have them back ready to go again.”

Liverpool will resume their league campaign with a visit to the Emirates Stadium on 4th April.
