Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has insisted that he has not made any promises to anyone about joining Manchester United in the future.

It was claimed yesterday that the Dortmund captain promised former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012 that he would join the Red Devils if he ever chooses to leave the Westfalenstadion.

The German World Cup winner insisted nothing of that sort ever happened and the whole story is nothing but a work of fiction.

A clarification: this supposed promise is completely fictitious…..and that is a friendly way of describing it”, the defender wrote on Twitter.

The Dortmund defender has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and it is believed Louis van Gaal is preparing a big money move for Hummels in the summer. The Dutchman feels the German would provide leadership to his set of young defenders at Old Trafford.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed yesterday that Hummels is indeed considering his future at the club, indicating a move away from the Westfalenstadion at the end of the season is a distinct possibility for the 26-year-old.

With the season coming to an end soon, the transfer saga is expected to pick up further pace as the summer transfer window edges nearer.
