Celtic manager Ronny Deila feels that Liam Henderson’s move to Rosenborg will do him a world of good, and he will return better for the experience.

The 18-year-old has joined Norwegian Tippeligaen outfit Rosenborg on a loan deal that will see him at the club for the remainder of the season.

Henderson made 14 appearances for Deila’s side in all competitions this season and scored once as well as assisted one goal.

The Hoops have already won the Scottish League Cup following their win over Dundee United last month and remain strong favourites to win the Scottish FA Cup as well as the league title, having made it to the semi-finals of the domestic cup and taken a commanding lead at the top of the league table.

The intense competition for places in the Celtic line-up, especially in central midfield – the position that Henderson plays – reduced the chances of his first team participation and in the prevailing circumstances the Norwegian feels that Henderson made the right call to join Rosenborg.

“This a good move for him as we have a lot of options in midfield and he can play now until July 1”, the manager was quoted as saying by the Celtic website.

“He will get as much experience as possible and it’s the biggest club in Norway with high expectations. It’ll give him more experience as a person and a player.

“Liam was keen and that’s what’s good about him – he is so ambitious and he wants to play and develop all the time.

“This is a good move for him and I made it clear that it’s not that I don’t want him, but that it’s good for his development – I know it’s the best for him and the club as well.

“Hopefully he’ll play important matches at a big club. Norwegian football is very structured and offensively there is a very clear pattern, especially with Rosenborg.

“He also has skills that Rosenborg need.”
