Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has insisted that it was right decision for him to stay at Liverpool and train with the Under-21s during the international break.

The Brazilian has recovered from the groin injury that he had suffered in February, but is yet to make his competitive comeback for the Reds.

He was on the bench for the league game against Manchester United on 22nd March and was also part of the All-Star Charity Game at Anfield at the weekend.

The 28-year-old now feels that he is absolutely ready to step up to the plate as and when his manager needs him.

Lucas also credits the time he has spent at Melwood since coming back from Brazil post his treatment for his progress and specifically mentioned the time he spent alongside some of the Under-21 youngsters during the international break.

"Of course it's good to have a few days off but I was away in Brazil while I was having my treatment", Lucas told his club's official site.

"So it was the right decision to stay here and keep working during the international break.

"If you get too many days off you don't get the sharpness and the rhythm of the training session and that's what I was missing."

Lucas also took time to thank the support staff at Liverpool, who he adds have helped him regain match fitness.

"I spoke with the staff and they prepared everything for me as well to make me feel as though I'm in good condition, so it's looking good and hopefully it will only get better."
