Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud wants to finish above team-mate Alexis Sanchez in the Premier League goalscorers list this season.

Both have scored 13 goals in the league this term for the Gunners and have played an important part in Arsenal’s recent run of league form that has seen them consolidate their position in the top four.

While Sanchez started the season brightly, his goalscoring form has tapered off over the last few weeks, but the Frenchman has been banging in goals for fun for the Gunners lately.

Giroud has scored six goals in his last five Premier League appearances and the French international is now aiming to beat Sanchez to become the top goalscorer for Arsenal this season.

He also added that the healthy competition with his team-mate is only going to help Arsenal consolidate their position in the business end of the season.

“I'm not going to say something silly because it'll be reported, but why not finish ahead of Alexis?”, Giroud told RMC Sport.

“We push each other, we're on 13 goals, and I would like to score some more to help the team achieve its objectives.”

Arsenal are set to welcome fellow top four contenders Liverpool to the Emirates for a crucial Premier League encounter this Saturday.
