Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson feels that Barcelona forward Neymar has a lot of potential which remains to be fulfilled, adding that he expects the Brazilian to be the next superstar of football.

Neymar joined Barcelona at the start of the 2013/14 season from Brazilian outfit Santos and since then he has gone on to cement his place in the Catalan giants’ starting eleven.

The Brazil national team captain has enjoyed a stellar run of form alongside his forward partners Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez under manager Luis Enrique. The youngster has scored 26 goals and assisted a further eight to help Barcelona climb atop La Liga.

However Ferguson, who was at the helm of Manchester United for an unprecedented 26 years before his retirement at the end of the 2012/13 season, feels that the 23-year-old still has to reach his full potential.

The 73-year-old backs Neymar to be the next superstar and reach the levels of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the coming years.

“The boy Neymar gets a lot of publicity about the potential he's got, but I think that's still to be seen, still to be fulfilled”, Ferguson told SiriusXM radio station.

"Certainly, most people I speak to speak highly of the boy.

“When I had Anderson at United, he spoke volumes about the boy's ability.

“So hopefully he'll be the next one who'll produce the type of talent we see in Messi and Ronaldo.”
