Scottish giants Rangers are hoping to snap up defender Sander Fischer, whose contract with Dutch club Excelsior is coming to an end.

The 26-year-old's contractual situation has made him an attractive prospect for a number of clubs and Fischer has also attracted interest from Dutch side NAC Breda and Belgian outfit KV Mechelen.

Fischer has continually waved away speculation around his future as he seeks to focus on Excelsior's upcoming Dutch Cup tie against FC Groningen.

However, the defender is wanted by Rangers, according to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, and all eyes are on Fischer to see who he chooses as his next club.

A centre-back, Fischer started his senior career with NAC Breda before moving on to SC Cambuur.

The defender has yet to play outside the Netherlands and may be attracted to the idea of turning out for Rangers in Scotland.

However, Excelsior have not given up hope of persuading Fischer to sign a new contract and success in the cup would put European football on the agenda at the club.
