Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has paid tribute to star forward Cristiano Ronaldo for his performance against Granada yesterday.

The Portuguese superstar scored five goals, including a hat-trick within eight minutes, in Real Madrid’s 9-1 win over Granada at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ronaldo has already scored 36 goals in La Liga this season and has hit the back of the net 47 times in all competitions for Real Madrid.

Benzema termed the 30-year-old ‘phenomenal’ and insisted that he deserves all the accolades which come his way because he always performs when the team need him to.

"Ronaldo is simply phenomenal”, Benzema told Marca.

“He's always there for the team. I'm really pleased for him; he deserves all this."

The Frenchman admits that scoring nine goals in a top flight match is rare and he is happy that they could entertain the home crowd.

However, he stressed the win was more important because Real Madrid had to bounce back after losing to Barcelona earlier this month.

"It was a great game for us after the defeat at Barcelona. It was good for us all.

“In my opinion, the win and the three points were the most important thing, although it's true that you don't score nine goals in every game. We just tried to entertain the fans.”

Despite their blockbuster performance, Real Madrid remain second in La Liga, four points behind league leaders Barcelona.
