Liverpool are eyeing Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio to provide competition for number 1 Simon Mignolet at Anfield next season.

Brendan Rodgers is ready to offload Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones at the end of the season and wants to draft in another goalkeeper who can battle Mignolet for a starting spot.

Though the Belgian has been in fine form over the last month or so, Liverpool want to sign a quality goalkeeper should Mignolet suffer a dip in form.

According to Portuguese daily A Bola, the club’s attention has moved towards Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Patricio and they are keen to take him to Anfield in the summer.

The 27-year-old is a vastly experienced goalkeeper and has already made more than 300 appearances in Sporting Lisbon's colours.

Patricio is also the Portuguese number one and has earned 35 international caps for his country on the international stage.

Liverpool want to add his experience to their goalkeeping department this summer and believe Patricio’s pedigree as a quality custodian will keep Mignolet on his toes at Anfield next season.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese number one would be content to fight Mignolet for game time at Liverpool or looks to seek assurances from Rodgers about his first team opportunities before giving his nod to the deal at the end of the season.

With more than three years left on his deal, Sporting Lisbon are expected to take the upper hand in negotiations should Liverpool come calling for Patricio this summer.
