FC Tokyo president Naoki Ogane has revealed that he has received a bid from Chelsea for their Japanese international winger Yoshinori Muto.

Schooled at Tokyo’s youth academy, the 22-year-old Japanese international has made a name for himself in the J-League with superlative performances for the club.

He has scored 17 goals in 43 appearances for the club and has attracted the attention of some European sides with his performances in his native land.

Chelsea are believed to have been on his trail for a while now and their scouts have sent some glowing reports on Muto to Stamford Bridge.

However, the FC Tokyo president claimed Chelsea have more than just a passing interest in the player and have already lodged a formal offer for the winger.

“It is true that Chelsea sent us an offer for Muto”, Ogane was quoted as saying by Japanese sports daily Nippon Sports.

“It is a formal offer with conditions. They want to acquire him in the summer.”

It has been claimed the Chelsea have made an initial offer of around £4m and if the transfer happens then it would be a record transfer fee paid for a J-League based player.

Muto is aware of Chelsea’s interest but said that he is yet to decide anything on his future.

“Although I have received an offer from a great side, I am yet to make any decision.”

The 22-year-old made his debut for the Japanese national team in September last year and has already earned eleven international caps.
