Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn has urged the club to take a leaf out of their history by keeping their better players, echoing a policy employed under the legendary Don Revie at Elland Road.

Revie bossed the Whites from 1961 to 1974 and during that time made them one of the most feared sides in England. Leeds scooped up the league title twice, the FA Cup once, the League Cup once and the UEFA Cup twice under Revie, who remains a legend at the Yorkshire giants.

Redfearn, who stepped up from his role as academy chief to senior side head coach earlier this season, was a firm fan of Leeds throughout the period.

And with the Whites having a talented crop of young players at their disposal who have been linked with moves to Premier League clubs, Redfearn has urged Leeds to follow Revie's example, which he feels is the route to success.

"I know it's difficult because I know sometimes that you've got to sell players to balance the books and it's a business, the football club is a business and it's a big club", he told a press conference.

"But if you can just keep your better players, particularly your young players and you can develop them and they have that understanding of what you're club's about…

"When Leeds were at the real height of their powers under Don Revie that's how they did it. That's what happened.

"I'm not saying this is anywhere near that, don't get me wrong, but the facts are there. It works", Redfearn added.
