Ajax defender Joel Veltman believes that there are many similarities between his club coach Frank de Boer and Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.

Veltman, a highly rated centre-back and a product of Ajax's esteemed youth system, played under Van Gaal at international level for the Netherlands during the Manchester United manager's time as Oranje coach.

At the Amsterdam ArenA he turns out under De Boer, where he has won two Eredivisie titles and one Johan Cruyff Shield, and for the 23-year-old, both coaches share many of the same traits.

The defender explained to Voetbal International: "[Van Gaal] gave me confidence and showed faith in me. His way of working, which means he sees everything and is so much involved with the team and the individual, was good for me.

"De Boer sees everything and is very engaged in training, which he sometimes stops to say something.

"The only difference is that De Boer wants to do a lot, while Van Gaal left much to his assistant coach Danny Blind", Veltman added.

The defender has seven caps to his name for the Netherlands and was taken to the World Cup last summer by Van Gaal as part of the Oranje squad.

Veltman may soon find himself facing Van Gaal's Manchester United in the Premier League, having been linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea over the course of the last 12 months.
