Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti believes his side deserved more than just a draw against Atletico Madrid last night.

The first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie ended in a 0-0 stalemate at the Vicente Calderon. The result means a score draw in the return leg will send Atletico Madrid into the semi-finals of the competition.

Jan Oblak’s form in the Atletico Madrid goal kept the reigning European champions at bay and the Real Madrid forwards left the pitch frustrated after the game.

Ancelotti stressed that they should have got more from the first half performance when Real Madrid created the majority of the chances and feels that they should have capitalised on the opportunities.

The Real Madrid boss admits that Los Colchoneros are one of the most defensively organised teams in Europe and did say that despite their poor finishing, he was reasonably pleased with his side’s attacking performance.

He believes if they can replicate their performance at home in the return leg, then they will be in a good position to qualify for the last four of the Champions League.

“We deserved more than a 0-0, especially in the first half”, Ancelotti told the UEFA.

“The first period was fantastic and we played with a lot of personality. The second half was different. Atletico pressed more. The result is not so good but we are confident.

“Atletico are one of the best teams in the world defensively and that is the reason we had problems scoring. We didn't finish well but we did a good job.

“We have to repeat this showing next Wednesday.”
