Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has urged PSV Eindhoven to build on their success in the future.

PSV are on the verge of winning their first league title since 2008 and need only a win against Heerenveen this Saturday to secure the Eredivisie with three games left to play.

They have dominated the Dutch top flight this season and are close to ending Ajax’s four-year stranglehold on the league title.

Gomes, who won four league titles at PSV, is pleased to see his former side at the top of Dutch football again but stressed that they need to build on their success.

The Watford shot-stopper would be happy to see PSV play in the Champions League next term and believes a club of their stature should be competing in that competition every season.

“PSV must not be satisfied with one league title”, Gomes told De Telegraaf.

“The league title should be the beginning of a long period of success, as we achieved when we won four titles on the trot.

“I hope PSV’s lean period is over and they can again play Champions League football for a longer period because it fits a big club like them.”

Gomes made 173 appearances for PSV before he moved to England with Tottenham in the summer of 2008.
