The Bayern Munich medical team, led by club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, have resigned from their posts at the Allianz Arena.

It is believed that there were simmering tensions between Pep Guardiola and Muller-Wohlfahrt and the Bayern Munich boss was not always happy with the work of the club doctor.

He was also seen sarcastically clapping at the 72-year-old medical professional after Medhi Benatia was taken off with an injury in their German Cup match against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month.

Things came to a head after Bayern Munich suffered a 3-1 loss at FC Porto in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final and Guardiola was not pleased that he was missing a number of key players due to injury.

Muller-Wohlfahrt has said that he and his medical team were held responsible for the result and stressed that ‘the bond of trust is damaged’.

A statement from Muller-Wohlfahrt, carried by ITV, read: “After the Champions League match of Bayern Munich against Porto the medical department were for some inexplicable reason made primarily responsible. The bond of trust is damaged.”

Bayern Munich were missing Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, David Alaba, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez and Benatia for their match against Porto.
