Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has warned Iker Casillas that he might lose his first choice goalkeeper status at the club if a better option arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Casillas’ form has been on the slide for the last few seasons and the Real Madrid captain has even been jeered by the Santiago Bernabeu faithful for his recent performances.

The Spain captain has talked about moving to MLS in the future but the Real Madrid boss doesn’t feel that the shot-stopper will leave the club this summer and is confident that he will retire with Los Blancos.

When asked whether Casillas will Real Madrid at the end of the season, Ancelotti was quoted as saying by AS: "I don’t think so.

“I’m sure that he will stay at Madrid until the end of his playing career. He’s a veteran player and he knows the importance of treating the fans how they should be treated.”

However, Ancelotti said that Casillas could become the club’s number two goalkeeper if a better option joins the club and didn’t rule out the possibility of another custodian arriving at Real Madrid in the summer.

"I don’t think so [he will remain the number one choice forever], if a better goalkeeper comes along, then probably not.

“It’s possible [someone might join]."

There is heavy speculation that Real Madrid are trying to snare David de Gea away from Manchester United in the summer and rumours surfaced earlier today that the former Atletico Madrid man has reached a verbal agreement with the European champions, leaving only a fee needing to be agreed with the Red Devils.
