Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has heaped praise on Diego Costa for his prolific goal return this season.

Costa landed at Stamford Bridge from reigning Spanish champions Atletico Madrid at the start of the current season and he has taken the Premier League by storm in his inaugural season, scoring 19 goals and setting up his team-mates for a further three.

The Spain international’s prolific goal return has played a key part in helping Jose Mourinho’s side reach atop the Premier League and made them strong favourites for their first league title since the 2009/10 season.

The Brazil-born forward, who has already collected his first piece of silverware in Chelsea’s colours with their League Cup triumph last month, is known for his feisty approach to the game.

And Cascarino, who played for the Blues from 1992 until 1994, has lavished praise on the 26-year-old for his on-field attitude as well as his prolific strike rate.

“I love Diego’s hunger and desire to go and hunt people down”, he told Chelsea’s website.

“He never stops hassling defenders and just making it as hard as he can for whoever he is playing against.

“Add in the goals he has scored and it’s been a tremendous season”, the 52-year-old concluded.
