Danny Welbeck believes the current season is a transitional one for him at Arsenal and says he is confident of scoring more goals for the Gunners next term.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger splashed out £16m to sign Welbeck from Manchester United last summer, with the Red Devils moving the England international on to make way for Radamel Falcao.

Wenger has at times played Welbeck through the middle for Arsenal, but he has also shifted the striker out wide when needed.

The striker has managed just eight goals in all competitions for Arsenal this season, but it is not a total Welbeck is losing sleep over, believing that the current campaign is all about getting used to life at the Emirates Stadium.

"It's a transitional year for me and getting to know new players, team-mates, systems, new ways of going about things", Welbeck told the BBC.

"I think I've put in a few good performances and been a bit unlucky on the goals front which is something I know will come in abundance once I come to know everything spot on with the club."

And Welbeck admits that he does prefer playing as the central striker when possible, however he believes the way Arsenal play means he can often interchange position when started out wide.

"It's no secret I prefer to play down the middle but the formation we play at Arsenal, you play on left or right but always inter-changing in a three-man attack, it's much easier doing that than playing left wing in a four-man midfield", the Manchester United youth product added.
