Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is elated with the progress of Patrick Bamford since his loan move to Middlesbrough.

Bamford was sent on loan to Championship outfit Middlesbrough at the start of the current season and the youngster has flourished under Aitor Karanaka, scoring 17 goals and providing a further five assists for his team-mates to help the Boro climb to fourth spot in the table.

Middlesbrough are among the leading contenders for promotion to the Premier League and Bamford has been an instrumental part of their success with his prolific scoring rate.

And Mourinho, who has guided Chelsea to top spot in the Premier League, feels that at this stage of Bamford’s career, development is of the essence.

“He has a chance to be promoted with Middlesbrough”, the manager was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“That’s why he is there, to develop himself and to help Middlesbrough.

“They can be promoted now, or in the playoffs, or not, but we think these last three matches and the possibility of an extra two or three in the playoffs are very important for his development.

“This is the only thing that matters.”

Bamford will look to add to his goal tally and help Middlesbrough seal all three points when they play fellow promotion contenders Norwich City tonight.
