Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has denied his culpability in the resignation of the Bavarian giants’ medical staff led by club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt.

Guardiola was filmed sarcastically clapping in front of Muller-Wohlfahrt following an injury to Mehdi Benatia during Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga outing against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month.

Bayern Munich’s medical department have reportedly taken offence at being held responsible for their 3-1 defeat to FC Porto in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie earlier this week in which Guardiola had to contend without several of his first team regulars missing due to injury.

But the Catalan has denied being responsible for the resignation of the long-serving club doctor.

“I've been informed of the doctor's decision and I fully respect it”, he was quoted as saying by Marca.

“Nothing happened between us, it was his decision.

“Injuries are part and parcel of football, they're not the medical staff's fault.

“The responsibility for the defeat in Porto lies with me.”

The former Barcelona manager further pointed out that his team coped well in the absence of several first team regulars in his close to two years in charge of the Bavarian outfit.

“Put together, my players have had 30 operations over the last two years, but we've still won the league and cup.”

Their first leg loss to Porto has left Bayern Munich with a mountain to climb in the second leg scheduled to be played next week.
