Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici has confirmed that they are close to signing Argentine striker Carlos Tevez, but stressed that he needs to terminate his contract with Juventus before the deal can be completed.

It emerged earlier this week that Tevez has asked Juventus to allow him to move back to Argentina with Boca Juniors this summer.

While the Italian champions are reluctant to lose Serie A’s top scorer, they have accepted the fact that they will find it hard to change the former Manchester City man's mind and have already started their search for his replacement.

While there is excitement surrounding Tevez’s impending return to his old stomping ground, the Boca Juniors president warned that the deal is not done yet.

Though he admits that they are close to sealing his return, Angelici stressed that Tevez still needs to terminate his agreement with Juventus to complete the deal.

“We must be careful”, Angelici told TYC Sports.

“We know that he wants to return to Argentina with Boca Juniors but he must first terminate his contract with Juventus, which runs until 2016.

“We are close to sealing his return and it will be done shortly.”

The Argentina international joined Boca’s youth academy in 1996 and went on to score 26 league goals in 76 appearances for the club before joining Corinthians in 2005.
