Neil Redfearn admits he is frustrated and disappointed after his Leeds United side slipped to a 2-1 defeat away at Charlton Athletic today, despite leading in the match at the half time break.

Leeds were hit by the withdrawal through injury of six players before the match, losing first team regulars Marco Silvestri and Mirco Antenucci from the group who deemed themselves unable to play.

However, the Whites started brightly at the Valley and Billy Sharp should have handed them the lead from the penalty spot. However, Steve Morison, with his first goal since 2013, popped up to fire the visitors ahead in the 40th minute.

Leeds were in control of the match at half time, but in the second half saw Charlton mount a fightback.

First Tony Watt drew the Addicks level in the 75th minute, losing his marker Scott Wootton to drill a shot into the back of the net.

Then Charlton hit Leeds with a quickfire second goal just five minutes later, Igor Vetokele being fouled in the box and Yoni Buyens lashing home from the penalty spot.

2-1 was how it finished, handing Leeds a fifth successive defeat.

And Redfearn was left disappointed at the outcome, though was not keen to criticise his players post-match.

He told LUTV: "It's frustrating and disappointing. I thought we played really well first half. At half time we talked about needing to start well second half – I didn't think we started badly, but we didn't start with the same momentum and we let them in the game.

"To be fair to these lads they've given everything for us and I can't go criticising them today because there's a lot of things that have happened and we've got the club in a safe position.

"It's not ideal, the run we're on. But there are things that have happened that have taken their toll, that's apparent."

The head coach also had warm words for the club's travelling support, with around 3,000 making the journey to London.

"I have to say the support was fantastic again today for the players."
