Leeds United have been plunged into crisis after six of their players withdrew their names from their squad ahead of their game against Charlton Athletic later today.

Mirco Antenucci, Giuseppe Bellusci, Dario Del Fabro, Marco Silvestri, Souleymane Doukara and Edgar Cani all told Leeds boss Neil Redfearn that they were injured.

According to the Press Association, neither Redfearn nor his medical team were aware of the injuries beforehand and the news has come as shock for the entire coaching staff.

The Leeds boss has already seen his position at Elland Road undermined after his assistant Steve Thompson was suspended earlier this month without any prior notice.

Redfearn’s own contract with the club, which expires at the end of the season, looks increasingly unlikely to be renewed by the club’s hierarchy.

It is to be noted that strikers Antenucci and Doukara, defenders Bellusci and Del Fabro and goalkeeper Silvestri were signed by banned Leeds United president Massimo Cellino.

Cellino was banned by the Football League in January after he was convicted for tax fraud in Italy. His ban runs until May.

Leeds are currently 15th in the Championship table.
