David de Gea feels solid defensive performances have played a major role in Manchester United’s recent run of good form.

The Red Devils shot-stopper made crucial saves and was often the difference between Manchester United and surrendering points at a very crucial juncture of the campaign.

However, Manchester United are on a good run of form at the moment and De Gea had very little to do in their last few games, where the defence has looked a lot more solid and resilient.

The Spaniard admits that good teams are always built on a solid defence and the Red Devils have managed to turn a corner over the last month or so where they have looked a lot more steady at the back.

Manchester United have the third best defensive record in the league this season and De Gea believes a steady defence is always a source of confidence for the entire team as it allows the flair players to play their natural game with more freedom.

"I think a team is built on a sound defence and not conceding many goals and that’s what we’re managing to do at the moment", De Gea told MUTV.

"We’re defending better and bringing the ball out from the back better too.

“That increases confidence throughout the team as well and helps us to score more goals."
