Dutch fitness coach Raymond Verheijen has advised Manchester United striker Robin van Persie to move to play his football in Serie A, a league he feels would suit the Netherlands star at this point in his career.

Verheijen believes that Van Persie is struggling with the demands which Premier League football place on his body, having picked up numerous injures at former club Arsenal, which are now causing him to be injury prone at present side Manchester United.

The Dutch fitness coach feels that Van Persie is having to pick and choose the moments in which to give his all, managing his body in such a way that he will not pick up injuries.

And Verheijen argues Serie A is now the perfect choice for the Dutchman.

"The result is that he clearly has to pick and choose his moments, as was clear to see with the World Cup", Verheijen told the Algemeen Dagblad.

"The game pace [in Serie A] is just lower.

"Players have to make fewer actions per minute, in addition, the focus is assessed for just a few moments.

"Given his current physique and his history, it would suit him well."

Van Persie, who was on the bench for Manchester United's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea yesterday, sees his contract with the Red Devils expire in 2016 and at present there has been no word on an extension.

As a result the former Arsenal striker has been linked with a number of clubs, chiefly Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
