Ronny Deila has reflected on Celtic's 3-2 defeat to Inverness in their Scottish Cup semi-final today, claiming that his side were in control and should have scored more goals.

Celtic got an early boost when Virgil van Dijk hit a superb free-kick which curled into the back of the net in the 18th minute.

Everything appeared to be going to plan for the Bhoys, but then in the 56th minute, goalkeeper Craig Gordon was sent off for bringing down Marley Watkins. And from the penalty spot, Greg Tansey made no mistake and drew Inverness level.

Inverness then grabbed the lead in extra time when Edward Ofere struck in the 96th minute.

Celtic though would not lie down and John Guidetti hit a free kick which bounced over the Inverness goalkeeper, making it 2-2.

Inverness however had the last laugh, with David Raven getting on the end of a good move to lash the ball into the back of the net in the 117th minute.

It finished 3-2 to Inverness, ending Celtic's treble dreams – and for Deila, the Bhoys only had themselves to blame.

"We had control and created big chances in the first half. We should have scored more. The game switched when we got a man sent off and we lost the ball too much as the players got tired", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"There is no problem with our red card. If it is a penalty, it is a red card.

"We give credit to Inverness and start concentrating on a big game in the league on Wednesday. The most important thing is the league.

"You get disappointment in football and you need to deal with failure. Today was a big day and we were close."

Deila also refused to be drawn on an incident in the first half when it appeared clear an Inverness player handballed in the box.

"I don't think I have to say too much about it. People can see for themselves."
