Tim Sherwood believes he tactically outwitted his opposite number Brendan Rodgers today, when leading Aston Villa to a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final.

Sherwood's men were much the better of the two teams, but fell behind to a Philippe Coutinho goal in the 30th minute at Wembley.

However, two goals either side of half time, one from Christian Benteke and the other from Fabian Delph, put Aston Villa in control and they comfortably saw out the win to book a spot in the final on 30th May where Arsenal will provide the opposition.

Sherwood feels that tactically he got it right against Liverpool, playing a system and style they could just not cope with.

He said via the FA: "We were the underdogs but we believed in there that we could win it and I think we bamboozled Liverpool to be honest.

"We kept the ball off them, created lots of chances and they resorted to lumping the ball into our area in the last 10 minutes so you know you are doing something right when they're doing that."

Sherwood succeeded Paul Lambert as Aston Villa boss earlier this season and is now just one game away from leading the club to silverware.

Liverpool meanwhile will finish the season empty handed and also appear set to miss out on finishing in the Premier League's top four, meaning no Champions League football at Anfield next term.
