Harry Kane says Tottenham Hotspur were determined to get a result against Newcastle United today after they ran out 3-1 winners at St. James' Park.

Nacer Chadli fired Spurs in front in the 30th minute, however they were pegged back within a minute of the start of the second half when Jack Colback struck for Newcastle.

However, Spurs went up a gear and Christian Eriksen curled in a delightful free-kick to put them back in front in the 53rd minute.

Then, in injury time, Kane struck to make it 3-1 and in the process scored his 30th goal of the current season, becoming the first Spurs player to do so since the 1991/92 campaign.

It was Spurs first win since 21st March and Kane says his side were desperate to beat Newcastle.

He told Sky Sports: "We deserved it today. We played well. We've had some disappointing performances in the last couple of weeks and we wanted to put that right.

"I had a couple of chances and the keeper made some good saves but I'm delighted to get back on the score-sheet."

Kane was also delighted to have hit the 30-goal mark for the season and is now eyeing scoring even more before the whistle blows on the 2014/15 campaign.

"I'm very proud but there are five games left and, hopefully, I'll get a few more goals."
