On loan Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford has won the Championship Player of the Year award.

The 21-year-old, who arrived at the Riverside Stadium on a loan deal from Chelsea last summer, has spearheaded the club’s promotion bid with his 17 league goals this season.

He received the award in a gala ceremony in London on Sunday evening, following a vote amongst the club managers.

Bamford beat off competition from Ipswich Town's Daryl Murphy and Watford's Troy Deeney to claim the accolade.

Though he has been voted the outstanding player of the season in English football’s second tier, Bamford is not sure about his future and said that playing for Chelsea remains his goal.

However, he stressed his future is out of his hands and it is up to the Blues to decide on what to do with him this summer.

"I don't know myself what will happen in the summer. It's a big thing to play for Chelsea”, Bamford was quoted as saying by Middlesbrough’s official site.

"I'd benefit most from playing, but that would be up to the people at Chelsea to decide what career plan they have for me."

With two games to left to play in the season, Middlesbrough are level on points with second placed Bournemouth and a point off Championship league leaders Watford.
