Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure admits that recent criticism of his performances has hurt him but has stressed that his commitment towards the club should not be questioned.

The Ivorian midfielder has come in for some harsh criticism for Manchester City’s recent lack of form and was heavily criticised for his lethargic showing in their derby defeat against Manchester United last weekend.

Toure was blamed for not stamping his authority on the midfield against the Red Devils as Louis van Gaal’s men ran riot at Old Trafford in their 4-2 win.

The 31-year-old insisted that he cannot control anyone’s opinion of him and everyone is entitled to form one but stressed his commitment towards Manchester City should not be questioned.

The midfielder admits that some of the criticism did hurt him as his attitude towards the club was questioned and he assured the Manchester City fans that he will fight hard for the club until his last day at the Etihad.

“Everybody has their opinion in football and they are entitled to that”, Toure told the club’s official website.

“There have been a lot of things said and a lot of rumours about me, but everyone who knows me – the people who work for the club and the supporters – know that I will continue to find to the end for this football club.

“It hurts a lot sometimes when your work-rate is questioned but I will work hard for the team and for the respect of the fans who have always been behind me and I will continue to show my commitment to the team and I love playing for City.”

Toure played an important role as Manchester City returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over West Ham at the Etihad yesterday.
