Veteran Dutch coach Co Adriaanse has backed Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal to get the best out of winger Memphis Depay.

Manchester United have registered an interest in the PSV Eindhoven starlet, with some suggestions from the Netherlands that a deal is virtually done for the Oranje international to head to Old Trafford.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-German are also on Depay's tail, but Manchester United are in pole position to reunite Depay with Van Gaal, the winger having played under the manager during last summer's World Cup, when Van Gaal bossed the Netherlands.

And 67-year-old Adriaanse, who counts Ajax, AZ Alkmaar, FC Porto, Red Bull Salzburg and FC Twente amongst his former clubs, feels Van Gaal would be perfect for Depay.

Adriaanse said on Studio Voetbal: "With Van Gaal he'd [Depay] be much better off than at Paris Saint-Germain."

At 21 years old, Depay has just powered PSV Eindhoven to the Eredivisie title, knocking Ajax off the top of the Dutch tree.

PSV Eindhoven still have three Eredivisie games to play this season, with a home clash against Heracles sandwiched in between trips to Excelsior and ADO Den Haag.
