Former Southampton defender Vegard Forren admits he can see shades of Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in Molde's 17-year-old striker Sander Svendsen.

Solskjaer rose to prominence as a young striker at Molde, earning a move to Manchester United. The Norwegian spent over a decade as a player at Old Trafford, scoring the winning goal in the 1999 Champions League final and becoming a club legend. He later coached the club's reserve team.

Forren played under Solskjaer in his spell as Molde manager, before leaving to join Southampton. The defender had only a brief spell in England though and is now back in Norway with Molde, where he has had a chance to look at the club's young striker Svendsen.

There is considerable hype around the 17-year-old and Forren is not surprised, seeing shades of Solskjaer in Svendsen.

"To compare Sander with Solsjkaer is not a bad comparison", Forren told Dagbladet.

"They are goal hunters with superb skills in the box."

Svendsen further enhanced his reputation yesterday with a brace in Molde's 5-1 thrashing of Aalesund.

"Sander also has many other skills, like he showed yesterday", Forren continued.

"He will be an interesting name for clubs from abroad in the long term."

Last season Svendsen clocked up 12 appearances in the Norwegian top flight, eleven coming from the substitutes bench as he was eased into regular first team action. This term he already has three goals to his name in four appearances.
