Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has expressed his disappointment at not being able to hand outgoing skipper Steven Gerrard a fairy tale farewell by winning the FA Cup.

The Reds' dream of taking part in the FA Cup final on 30th May, a date that coincides with Gerrard's 35th birthday, was dashed as they lost 2-1 to Aston Villa at Wembley yesterday.

While describing the feeling of disappointment around the club, the 34-year-old added that it is always difficult for a team after such a disappointing loss in a semi-final.

He also took time to insist that the team wanted to win the trophy not only for Gerrard but also for the fans, who have long been due silverware.

However, now that the FA Cup dream is over, Toure insists that Gerrard, along with his other team-mates will find ways to deal with the situation and move on.

"You feel bad. It is always difficult when you lose a semi-final like that", the former Manchester City player told Press Association Sport.

"The defeat is the thing. Of course we wanted to do very well for the last game of Stevie for the club but at the end of the day, we wanted to do it for the fans because this club deserves to have a trophy.

"He [Gerrard] is fine. Of course he is sad, like all the dressing room, but he has been in this game for a long time and he knows how to deal with these situations."
