Liverpool have refused to confirm or deny that midfielder Jordan Henderson is on the verge of signing a new five-year deal with the club.

It has been claimed in a number of English newspapers today that Henderson has agreed terms on a new five-year contract at Anfield, which will see him earn £100,000 per week.

However, according to the Press Association, Liverpool are refusing to comment on the speculation.

Henderson is currently Liverpool's vice-captain and is expected to become the club's captain when Steven Gerrard departs for Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer.

The midfielder has become a key man at Anfield under current manager Brendan Rodgers, having initially struggled when he arrived at the club from Sunderland in the summer of 2011.
