Aston Villa defender Jores Okore is unsure about his participation in the Under-21 European Championship this summer with Denmark.

The Villa defender has gone through a torrid time with his fitness over the last season or so and only returned in the middle of the campaign from a career threatening cruciate ligament injury.

The Danish defender suffered the setback during the initial phase of last season and had to sit out the entire campaign after surgically repairing the damage.

The Villa coaching staff have worked hard to get him up and running again and have managed him well to eke out 19 league appearances out of him this season.

Okore is expected to play a key role for Denmark in the Under-21 Championship this summer if he is selected but he is still not sure about his participation in the tournament.

He added that this is his first season after recovering from a career threatening injury so he is still not sure whether playing in the summer is a good idea for his body.

However, the defender said that he still needs to talk to Danish Under-21 boss Jess Thorup about his plans for him this summer.

“I would like to play in the European Championship, it’s a huge tournament”, Okore told Danish broadcaster DR.

“We can win the tournament but I must also wait and be wise about the situation as it is my first year after my cruciate ligament injury.

“Therefore it could be a lot of pressure on my body if I play through the summer and so I need to think whether I should play in the tournament”, Okore added.

“I have not talked with Jess about the tournament. I need to know his plans for me in the team before I talk to him about mine and then see how I feel about my body.”
