Former Everton and Manchester United defender Phil Neville feels Toffees fans are over their former player Marouane Fellaini’s protracted transfer to Old Trafford.

Fellaini’s transfer to Manchester United from Everton on summer transfer deadline day in 2013 came in acrimonious circumstances and left a bitter taste in the mouths of the Goodison Park faithful.

The Belgian made a name for himself in English football with Everton but the way he chose to leave the club angered the fans and the club hierarchy.

Fellaini was left on the bench in Manchester United’s last trip to Goodison Park last season, which also turned out to be David Moyes’ last game in charge of the Red Devils.

The Belgian, who has been given a new lease of life under Louis van Gaal, is expected to feature in the first eleven when the Red Devils take an away trip to Everton this Sunday and Neville feels Fellaini should just look to enjoy the occasion.

The former Everton captain feels the Goodison Park faithful have forgotten about the way the Belgian left the club and believes they should appreciate Fellaini’s contribution to the Toffees during his time with them.

"I think it’ll be good for Fellaini to go back to Goodison now because he’s going back in a better of state of mind", the former defender told Manchester United’s official website.

"What happened in terms of his departure from Everton has been forgotten about now so Everton fans can probably look at it and say Marouane did a great job for us, he’s coming back and United fans are seeing the best of him.

“So he’s got to go there enjoy the fact he’s playing really well for the club now and he had five great years at Everton too."
