Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has insisted that he always knew his team had it in them to overcome their first leg deficit against FC Porto in their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The German champions produced a masterclass to register an emphatic 6-1 win over Porto at the Allianz Arena and booked their place in the last four of the competition.

A 3-1 loss in Portugal last week pushed Bayern Munich on the back foot but four first half goals wiped out the deficit and it finally finished with a 7-4 aggregate scoreline in the home side’s favour.

The Bayern Munich boss was elated with the performance of his side last night and feels there is more to come from his team in the future.

“We are very, very happy about this performance, especially after recent weeks when we had our problems scoring goals”, Guardiola told UEFA.

“We can play even better!”

Guardiola stressed that he was not too worried after their loss in the first leg as he always knew that his side had the quality to overturn the deficit at home.

He added that though Porto are a good team, he was confident that his team would have the upper hand on their home turf.

“Even after the game in Porto I had the feeling that we could make it. You always make up the difference in your head.

“I always try to analyse our opponents. It was not such a big surprise how they played in Porto. They have a very good team, but today they were not able to reach their level.”
