Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray believes that a win against their Yorkshire rivals Leeds United at Hillsborough would give his side the chance to show their appreciation for the fans.

The two sides lock horns at the Owls' home ground for the first time since January 2014 when the hosts humiliated their rivals 6-0 in front of their fans.

And as they look to stage a repeat of last year's performance, the 55-year-old insists that his side need to do it not only for themselves but for their fans.

Gray expects huge attendance for the match, which will be his side's last home game of the season with bragging rights being on the line.

And therefore the former Southampton manager has urged his players to put in that extra commitment, desire and effort to register a win.

“The attendance will be high, the crowd will be buoyant with it being our last home game of the season and it’s bragging rights on the line”, Gray told his club's official website.

“We’ve got to put in that commitment, desire and effort and make sure we come away with a win.

“It’s a great opportunity for the players to put everything into the game and show our appreciation to the fans."

Gray also took time to reflect on last year's performance insisting that the result proved what can be achieved when all eleven players come up with "ten out of ten" performances.

“It’s the result that matters most and we said that last year when we played them.

“That day, we got 11 players giving ten out of ten performances and it just shows what you can achieve.

“Throughout your career you remember certain games; your debut, your first goal and then the special games and that ranks as one for sure.”
