Manchester City are closely following developments surrounding Jordi Alba’s contractual situation with Barcelona.

The Spain full-back has more than two years left on his deal with the Catalan giants and is one of the most crucial members of Luis Enrique’s team.

With his contract expiring in the summer of 2017, Barcelona are keen to further extend his stay with the club and have recently entered negotiations with the player’s representatives over a new deal for Alba.

While the negotiations are expected to be smooth, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City are keeping a close eye on proceedings at the Nou Camp and are hoping for issues to emerge during the renewal talks.

The Citizens are keen to strengthen their underperforming squad this summer and have identified Alba as one of the players who will add much needed quality to their defence.

However, both Barcelona and Alba want to extend their association and it is highly unlikely that the Catalan giants will take any chances with the 26-year-old's contract renewal.

Also it is highly unlikely that Manchester City will pay the €90m release clause in Alba’s contact but they are expected to monitor him closely this summer.
