Manchester United are not on the verge of signing midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, according to the Press Association.

It has been claimed this evening in Germany that the Red Devils have reached an agreement with Dortmund to snap up Gundogan.

Indeed, reports from Germany have claimed that Gundogan will put pen to paper on a contract with Manchester United this weekend to seal a move to Old Trafford for next term.

But such suggestions are wide of the mark, with Manchester United not close to completing a move for the midfielder at the present time.

The Red Devils are keen on Gundogan and remain well aware that his contract with Borussia Dortmund is due to expire in the summer of 2016.

However, Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels remains Manchester United's priority target from the Bundesliga giants and it remains unclear whether the German club will allow both Hummels and Gundogan to leave in the same summer.

Borussia Dortmund are still coming to terms with the fact that coach Jurgen Klopp is leaving in the summer and are loathe to see a player exodus.
