Ahead of Sunday’s clash against Manchester United, Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that his side enjoyed great results against the Red Devils last term, but he is expecting a tough outing this weekend.

Everton won both their league fixtures against Manchester United last season – they registered a 1-0 win at Old Trafford before winning 2-0 at Goodison Park, as the Red Devils endured a difficult campaign.

However, under Louis van Gaal, the Premier League giants have enjoyed good run of form of late following an inconsistent start to the season. They have won six of their last seven league fixtures as they sit third in the table and appear strong favourites to finish among the top four.

The Toffees are lying 12th in the standings and Martinez is expecting a tough outing against Van Gaal’s men when the two sides go head-to-head at Goodison Park this Sunday.

“Last year we had many different good moments against Manchester United – we managed the two wins in the same season which hadn't happened since Harry Catterick was in charge”, the Spaniard as quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“But, I think we are now facing a Manchester United side that are in their best moment of the season and looking to finish above the champions Manchester City which tells you all you need to know about their turn around this season.”

However, buoyed by his side’s narrow defeat at Old Trafford earlier in the season, Martinez feels that his side can cause the visitors some problems.

“We're looking forward to facing this side, but we feel that we have something to get back after the earlier game at Old Trafford.”
