Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has not ruled out the possibility of signing Radamel Falcao on a permanent deal at the end of the current campaign.

The Colombian arrived at the club on a loan deal last summer from Monaco but has so far failed to justify his top billing at Old Trafford this season.

He has scored only four goals for Van Gaal’s men and is becoming an increasingly peripheral figure at the club. Many believe his days at Manchester United are numbered.

Falcao started against Chelsea last weekend but was again ineffective and received widespread criticism for his performance in Manchester United’s 1-0 loss at Stamford Bridge.

However, Van Gaal feels the Colombian played well against the Blues and was unlucky not to score a goal or two. He still believes Falcao has the quality to succeed at Old Trafford and said that despite his poor form, he has continued to remain a model professional.

“I like how Falcao played against Chelsea. He was an attacking point for the team and he was unlucky because he could have scored one or two goals – one shot hit the post”, Van Gaal told the club’s official website.

“He has had the chance to be a line-up player this season but he wasn’t, so you can say he is unlucky because he has the quality to play.

“He is always working hard, performing in the philosophy.”

When asked whether the Colombian has a future at the club, Van Gaal said: “First, I have to talk with Falcao.”

Manchester United have the option to make Falcao’s move permanent this summer for a fee of around €55m.
