Mauricio Pochettino wants Tottenham Hotspur to have a big summer in the transfer market to have a crack at the top four again next season.

With seven points separating Spurs in sixth and Manchester United, who play later today, in fourth many feel Pochettino’s men are more or less out of the race for a Champions League berth.




The Tottenham boss also indicated after yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Southampton that he has given up on their top four hopes and is already planning for next season.

Pochettino believes Tottenham deserve to be in the Champions League but admits that they need to spend big this summer to provide him the tools for a crack at the top four next season.
 


"We need to prepare for a big summer, build a strong team and fight for the top four", Pochettino was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"Our dream for our supporters and this club is that they deserve to fight for the top four and be in the Champions League."

While playing in the Europa League next season remains a distinct possibility, the Tottenham boss admits that he would rather play in the Champions League as it is better for the club and less taxing on his players.

“After my experiences of last year it's tough to play in the Europa League", he said.

"I prefer to play in the Champions League but if you reach the Europa League it's good for the club.”
