Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is hoping for a favour from West Brom when they take on Manchester United at the weekend.

Rodgers is aiming for his men to catch the Red Devils in fourth spot in the Premier League to qualify for next season's Champions League, despite knowing his side's chances of doing so are slim.

But with Liverpool playing twice before Manchester United take on West Brom on Saturday late afternoon, the gap between the two clubs could be down to just a single point if the Reds can win both games.

And Rodgers, whose own side were held to a 0-0 draw by West Brom on Saturday, is keen for Tony Pulis' men to inflict equal damage on Manchester United when they make the journey to Old Trafford to face Louis van Gaal's side.

"If we can win the games, then that will automatically put pressure on", he explained at a press conference.

"The teams above us obviously have the clear advantage, but you can only affect that by winning games.

"That will be our idea, starting tomorrow evening [against Hull]. If we can do that, it gets [the gap] down to four points.

"Manchester United have got West Brom at the weekend, we have seen how difficult it can be to play against Tony's team", Rodgers added, before advising his team to focus on their own results first and foremost.

"We can only really focus on ourselves."
