Greek giants Panathinaikos are on the tail of former Liverpool defender Danny Wilson as they spy a potential bargain this summer.

Wilson, who currently turns out for Scottish side Hearts, has activated a clause in his contract with the Edinburgh club which will allow him to move on without a transfer fee in the summer window.

His status has made the 23-year-old an attractive prospect and according to the BBC, Panathinaikos have made contact with Wilson's representatives.

Liverpool snapped up Wilson in 2010 from Rangers after he was widely earmarked as a future defensive star.

But he struggled for first team football at Anfield and was loaned out to Blackpool and Bristol City before joining Hearts on loan in 2013.

Wilson completed a permanent move to Hearts the same year and quickly established himself at the Edinburgh outfit.

Panathinaikos face opposition for Wilson's signature, with the 23-year-old having been linked with Scottish champions Celtic along with a number of English sides.
