Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason has stressed the need to learn from Saturday's mistake and try not to repeat the same errors again in the future.

The 23-year-old slipped just outside the box in the first half, playing the ball back to Ben Davies, who hesitated for a moment to allow Southampton striker Graziano Pelle to capitalise on the mistake and open the scoring for the hosts.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with the visitors being forced to come from behind twice to hold Ronald Koeman's team and thus maintaining their league standing.

While disappointed with his own mistake, the youngster insists that he was happy that his team yet again showed character to come from behind to draw the match.

Mason also stressed the need to learn from his mistake and try not to repeat the same mistake again in the future.

“I was obviously disappointed to give away a sloppy goal but once again we showed character to come back and get a positive result”, Mason told his club's official website.

“I should probably have cleared my lines first and foremost, but it’s one of those things I’ll learn from and hopefully won’t do again.

“I came in at half-time and apologised to the lads. I wanted to do my best to make up for it in the second half and try to make sure it didn’t negatively affect the result.

“It was unfortunate we didn’t get the win but we have to take credit from coming from behind twice. Overall, it’s not a bad result.”

Mauricio Pochettino's team are scheduled to host Premier League champions Manchester City next at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
