Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Diego Costa remains doubtful for their game against Leicester City on Wednesday.

Though the Spanish international striker is Chelsea’s top goalscorer this season with 19 strikes, he has been plagued with injuries and has missed a chunk of games due to his recurring hamstring concern.

Costa missed a number of games towards the end of his spell at Atletico Madrid last season due to the same hamstring problems and he carried that into his Chelsea career.

Chelsea have treated Costa with kid gloves and have tried to make sure that he remains fit for the big games but he has not played since he was taken off after just ten minutes against Stoke at the start of this month.

And Mourinho is not sure whether to take a gamble by playing him against Leicester on Wednesday.

The Chelsea boss admits that with Costa’s history with injuries, he is sceptical about taking a chance with him at the King Power Stadium.

When asked whether Costa will be available for the Leicester game, Mourinho said in a press conference: “I don’t know.

“I need to think whether he deserves a gamble or if we wait for a few more days.

“If he was player without injury history I would play him but he has a history, so we have to think.

“After Leicester there are four more games left so I have to think.”
