Atletico Madrid are desperate to offer a new contract to Antoine Griezmann as Bayern Munich and Chelsea circle around the French forward.

The 24-year-old joined the reigning Spanish champions just last summer from Real Sociedad and has enjoyed a fruitful season in front of goal with 25 strikes in all competitions.

However, Atletico Madrid are in danger of losing the forward this summer because of a perceived flaw in his deal with the club. It has been claimed that Griezmann has a release clause of just around €30m written into his contract with Los Colchoneros.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich, who have been keeping a close watch on the Frenchman, are aware of his release clause and are keen to take advantage of the situation this summer.

Atletico Madrid are aware they run the risk of losing the prolific Frenchman at the end of the season if they don’t take any steps to prevent it and according to El Confidencial, the club are prepared to offer him a new and improved contract.

While the expiry date of their deal is expected to remain the same, which is until 2020, the real purpose of the new contract is to get rid of the €30m release clause and secure the Frenchman’s future at the Vicente Calderon.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea believe that at €30m, Griezmann could be the bargain of the summer window and are expected to continue to monitor developments regarding the French international in the Spanish capital.
